The Clothing Company That Doesn't Make Clothes ®
As a small collective of industry veterans, ones with the right kind of miles on the clock and still a love for the product, we wanted to be part of a clothing company that did things differently. Kinder, even.
With the UK responsible for an estimated 11 million garments ending up in landfill every week, we believe that it’s the over-production of items that people don’t love that fuels this waste. As responsible designers and makers, we had no desire to add to this.
So, we needed to do things in a way that we could live with personally and as a business. To do that we broke the production cycle. Meaning that we went out and found only the highest quality ‘dead stock’ materials and garments from which we could produce the workwear, military and utility-inspired clothing we all love. But in a kinder, and we felt, more responsible way. In line with those values.
Dead stock materials can mean anything from authentic old-school workwear to left over rolls of unused fabrics and buttons. All still in their original boxes.
We were told by several people, whose advice we trust, that it would be much easier and cheaper to produce clothes how everyone else does.
But in our hearts we don’t feel that’s part of our DNA. So we do things differently, doing it our way.
It’s also important to us to develop and produce our collections as close to home as possible. In that, all design development and preparation come from our hometown studio in Derby. A city with a long tradition for textile production and garment-making.
We feel this connection deeply. And, we feel fortunate to be working alongside a handful of independent family-run garment makers, still producing in the UK today, which together form part of our story.
In being part of doing things differently, we thank you 'kindly' for your support.
